My Partner and I had our son when I was 37 weeks along. The pregnancy was difficult. I was sick everyday and could not "enjoy" the fun pregnancy chances and growth of our son as much as I had wished. My water broke the day of 37 weeks. Unfortunately my birth story was not a "Pinterest" presentation. Thankfully, our son was born healthy and happy even though for myself, it was not a happy moment. My birth plan did not go as planned, so for me, it was a hard adjustment. I remember when the doctors laid our son on my chest. I was a little out of it to remember the true warm heart feelings. Everything was a blur to me. I did not have a Photographer there to capture that perfect day we met our son, and it saddens me, I will never be able to rewind that moment or be able to look back at photos of the happiest day of my life.
The reason why Birth Photography is close to my heart is because I will be there to capture those moments that you may or may not really remember. The moments that mean the most, will forever be with you.
Birth photography is beautiful, but it is not for everyone. I can assure you that the images I capture during birth sessions are cherished by the family, especially mama.
After giving birth, a mother most likely forgets the details that helped bring her baby into this world. Her beautiful new child is all she cares about at that point. The images captured during a birth session will help to fill in the spaces of her memory of that special day.
Birth photography is often misunderstood.
I think people immediately imagine the graphic aspects, or feel that birth is too personal to have someone in there who is not a loved one.
But birth photo sessions are so much more than the actual photos from the moment of physical birth. In fact, no graphic needs to be featured… I'm capturing the complete story of birth.

Open and on-going communication with the parents, is key! I love meeting in person with my families to discuss all the thing that can come up. I really think it gives us both peace of mind and a clear expectation on what needs to be done in order to make the birth photography process easier while at the same time following all the guidelines set forth by the doctor/midwife/hospital.
There is nothing quite like birth photography. I can tell you from my experiences, it is an emotion-filled, once in a lifetime chance to witness a miracle. Each birth I have attended has been unique from one another. And I know the future ones I will photograph will be different as well. That is what makes it exciting and at times a little difficult.
It's 2:47 am. You are snuggled so warm in your bed fast asleep, maybe even having an amazing dream. Until the most annoying, loudest sound from your phone wakes you up with a jolt. It is a call you've been waiting on for weeks. It's finally time, as in baby time. You throw on your clothes and grab your gear and a little "survival" pack, and in a matter of minutes you are out the door and on the road to the hospital. You are a birth photographer. And YOU are in charge of documenting a baby's arrival earthside. I promise you, I will be dedicated to my clients no matter what time of day.
