Open and on-going communication with the parents, is key! I love meeting in person with my families to discuss all the thing that can come up. I really think it gives us both peace of mind and a clear expectation on what needs to be done in order to make the birth photography process easier while at the same time following all the guidelines set forth by the doctor/midwife/hospital.
There is truly nothing quite like birth photography—it’s emotional, powerful, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a miracle unfold. Every birth I’ve attended has been completely unique, and I know each future one will be just as different, which is what makes this work so meaningful and, at times, beautifully unpredictable. If having labor and delivery photographed doesn’t feel like the right fit for you, a Fresh 48 session is a wonderful alternative—allowing you to still preserve the raw emotion, connection, and first moments with your baby, without the intensity of the birth itself.
It's 2:47 am. You are snuggled so warm in your bed fast asleep, maybe even having an amazing dream. Until the most annoying, loudest sound from your phone wakes you up with a jolt. It is a call you've been waiting on for weeks. It's finally time, as in baby time.You throw on your clothes and grab your gear and a little "survival" pack, and in a matter of minutes you are out the door and on the road to the hospital. You are a birth photographer. And YOU are in charge of documenting a baby's arrival earthside. I promise you, I will be dedicated to my clients no matter what time of day.
A Fresh 48 hospital session is all about preserving the very first hours of your baby’s life—raw, emotional, and beautifully real. This session takes place within the first 24–48 hours after birth, right in your hospital room, where the story begins. From tiny fingers and wrinkled toes to the way your baby curls into you, every detail is documented gently and respectfully, allowing you to stay present while I capture the moments you’ll want to remember forever.
Your session includes documentary-style coverage that focuses on natural interactions rather than posed perfection. I photograph quiet snuggles, feeding moments, the first diaper changes, hospital bracelets, bassinets, name cards, and the in-between moments that often fade from memory too quickly. There is no pressure to perform—this time is about slowing down and letting your story unfold exactly as it is.
You’ll also receive light, guided posing when desired, ensuring you have a few softly composed images with your baby and immediate family. Partners, siblings, and meaningful visitors are always welcome to be included. I work with available window light whenever possible, keeping the atmosphere calm, unobtrusive, and true to the moment, while being mindful of hospital policies and your recovery.
After your session, you’ll receive a carefully curated and fully edited gallery that reflects your chosen editing style—timeless, warm, and emotive. Your images are delivered digitally, making it easy to download, share, and print these first memories. This is more than a photo session—it’s the beginning of your baby’s story, captured with intention, heart, and respect for this once-in-a-lifetime season.
Labor and Delivery

If you choose not to have labor and delivery photographed, a Fresh 48 session is a beautiful way to still honor and remember those first moments. While it doesn’t replace the birth itself, it gently echoes the emotion—capturing the raw connection, the exhaustion mixed with joy, the first cuddles, and the overwhelming love that fills the room afterward. These quiet, intimate hours allow your story to be told in a calm, meaningful way, preserving the essence of that life-changing moment without the intensity of the delivery.
